Mobo or GPU won't display using HDMI

Hi everyone.

My new build boots and displays fine from the VGA or DVI port on the mobo and GPu. But when I try to boot from HDMI (on both the GPU or mobo with GPU unplugged) I get no display. Any ideas on what the problem is?

- I've tried with 2 monitors, same results
- This is my second mother board, same problem... I actually returned the 1st mobo because it wasn't recognizing memory, and originally thought it was the GPU giving me the display problems. Now I don't know who to blame.



GPU: MSI Radeon 7850
Mobo: ASROCK z87 extreme 4
PSU: 500Watts Corsair, which should be sufficient.
CPU: i7 4770k
RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistics

Maybe try a new HDMI cable? Mine was bad (didn't know it...it shipped in the box with monitor...) and I reluctantly bought another one from Big Lots for around $10. Been working great since.

I should add that I've literally tried 3 HDMI cables (one of which is my roommates who uses it everyday). Thanks but no cigar.

OK. Have you gone in catalyst cc and corrected everything under displays?

I agree most my displays were fixed from settings, or downloading the right graphics drivers.

I still haven't installed an operating system yet, so no drivers or software.

I haven't installed an OS yet. Is there anything I should be doing in BIOS? HDMI should be able to display BIOS without drivers correct?

Honestly HDMI has only been on computers/VGA displays for maybe 4 years?
I really don't know if its supported in vanilla format with no OS installed.
The times I've used it it requires certain drivers to operate

That's definitely the problem. You won't be able to run a dual monitor without the graphics drivers. let alone an hdmi in some cases.

That's what I thought at first and I wasn't worried, but I have a friend who just did a build with the same motherboard and GPU (micro center and new egg had some crazy deals). He swears he was able to boot BIOS with HDMI. But he could very well be wrong.

Thanks for your time guys. I'm still paranoid about continuing the build and installing my OS though, if I'm being honest - ha

I just watched a video in where a guy boots BIOS with an HDMI cable. Now I just want to cry.

Wow.. so my monitor was set to VGA rather than HDMI..... but anyways - BIOS does display with an HDMI connection.

When mine didn't display all I had to do was change the settings on my monitor to display from hdmi rather than vga.
