I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard running 4x1gb OCZ Platinum DDR400/pc3200 RAM, advertised with 2-3-2-5 timings. I noticed that after all this time of leaving my motherboard settings to AUTO, that my RAM has been running at 333mhz. Is this normal? Or is the motherboard underclocking this RAM? (doesn't DDR400 run at 400mhz?). Also the timings are set at 2.5-3-3-5... should these be manually reset to 2-3-2-5 and the clockspeed manually reset to 400mhz?

I do NOT want to overclock, and my processor is not overclocked either (It's an Athlon64 X2 4800+ socket 939). My powersupply is an Antec NeoPower 550w. I just want to run the RAM at its normal speed, and it appears that all this time it has been running slower than it should... is that correct? Should I manually reset this? Is it dangerous to do so, or is the mobo's auto settings just incorrect and underclocking my hardware?

Thanks for the help, and also, please help me understand how this works, what is happening and why, etc.

Thanks!!

I have the exact same Mobo and 1 gig of PC3200 ram. Have you installed any of the Asus Utilities? Actually, the pc3200 ram operates at 200Mhz but when in pairs it doubles the speed (DDR = Double Data Rate) hence you het the 400Mhz effective speed. In your case, it appears that your ram is operating at 166Mhz (333 effective). You can try setting it manually at 200Mhz from the Asus utilities (I don't use any of them) or you can set it directly from the BIOS. Be sure your ram IS PC3200 before you try this.
By the way, you said you have a 4800+ dual core for 939 socket? I thought the highest 939 CPU was the 4400+. Where did you get that CPU?
Also, I need to point out that you won't notice much performance gain (maybe 3-5%) but still, why miss out on that 3-5% ?

Can you provide screen a photo of the bios options for memory?

In short, yes it should run at 400mhz. I don't know why Auto doesn't detect 400mhz, there might be another option in the bios holding it down.

Also, what ghz is your processor running at? It should be at 2.4 ghz?
The way I understand it, the CPU multiplier should be 12. Use CPU-Z and get the info off that. I think the problem may just be your CPU to Memory bus isn't set at 1:1.

You are probably going to run into problems running full speed with 4 sticks because you are using a s939 chip. You will probably notice that you are running 2T command rate also (you have a super chip if you are running 1T with no problems). The memory controller probably won't be able to handle 4 sticks at full speed, that's why the speed is dropped, as a precaution. But by all means, try it.
