If you keep it cool enough, can your cpu attain a fsb of like 350 (1400 qdr)? Does the higher the fsb go, the more strain that is put on the mobo? To the point it can't take it? Or is heat the only problem? Thanks.

Heat is not the only problem. The chipset on the mobo is strained at such extreme FSB. They need some ultra-cooling too. And then there is Memory. I dont think any available memory cud handle such extreme overclocks. And the PSU, i am not sure if the PSU wud be a problem  .

And signal interference and power shortage which needs more voltage, which results in higher temps.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM 😱

More Voltage resutls in higher temp, and higher temp needs more cooling which needs more voltage....ha ha ha, it goes on and on and on

Indeed, on and on it goes, where it stop no-one knows... well actually it stops when you reach the physical limit the chip can run at: even with the best cooling and a very high VCore it won't go higher.

Of course, thats the limit. now that makes me wonder... if anyone wud try such an extreme thing like the max Vcore, the best cooling, say liquid nitrogen, and if he/she indeed hits the max overclock limit of the chip, say about 4.5GHz for a P4 Northwood, how long wud the chip really last?? am still wondering...

hmmm. i was stumped by "LN2" for a moment though  . LN2 was actually an example....i am still wondering how long wud a chip last at extreme overclocks...

Coz, i am running my t-bred B 1700+ at 2100MHz at 1.85V Vcore. I was wondering how long wud this chip last at this overclock. i run my comp at an average of 8 hours a day.

Lets do some guessing... if you can keep it cool it will last 8 years instead of 10. Something like that atleast, and the CPU will be replaced due to upgrading before it is broken for sure.

Of course, i wud surely be upgrading in a year or so. My CPU overclocked runs as hot as 48-49C at full load. i guess at this rate my CPU cud last atleast 5-6 years. unless i screw up something very badly....in which case i cud claim the warranty  (i've got 2 years on my A7V8X, ASUS GF4 MX440 and 3 years on the 1700+)...

The market is a little volatile and unpredictable right now with all the speculation regarding AGP (as in nVidia kind of regaining the top spot with its 5900), then there is the CPU (64 bit or 32 bit??? how gud wud the 64 bit be for home use??? when wud the Hammer and Prescott come out??? wud prescott be supported on springdale/canterwood??) then there is RAM (when's DDRII to be released, how gud wud it be???) and of course, there is a whole issue of heat and the power needed  .... it sure goes on and on and on... ha ha ha

hmmm...i think i'll wait and let things to settle down a little bit before my next upgrade.

well about how long to chips last...well i have a k6-2 233mhz that is pretty damn old...bought it when it first came out and it runs every day for at least 8 hours...for about a month or more durring the summer 2 years ago the cpu fan died and the bios reported a 90c cpu temperature...i dunno why i waited so long to replace that fan...subconcously wanting that cpu to die so i could upgrade...i dunno but to this day that lil cpu is still running and it gets used every day. So cpus can last a pretty damn long time!

There is no smell better than fried silicon

i know, chips do last a long time unless u screw them up. I was oveclocking my 900MHz Thunderbird and i dont know whta i did wrong, now that CPU wont post. I think it had to do something with Static charge or may be it was something else. But i do hope my other 2 CPUs last sometime, at least until my next upgrade😀
