With the system detailed below, I'd like to upgrade initially my Motherboard, with a view to continuing using my GeForce-3, but future proof for prescott and Gforce Fx 5700 Ultra or better within the next 6-9-months.

I want to upgrade my Mobo so I can overclock processor.
My DDR is screened PC2300, so it's not got much mor MHz overclock left in it. My 645 Ultra don't want to overclock, and from MSI posts this is a common problem.

What are my options

I was looking at MSI Neo... is this the right ball park?

MIS645Ultra/2.4gig Pentium/2*TwinMos 256 MBit DDR333/450W Enermax PSU/1*40Gig 7200rpm Western Digital Disk/1*20Gig 720 Hitachi Disk/GeForce3 Ti200 LeadTek G-Card running 520/230 Ram/Core MHz

pc 2300? you mean pc3200?

Umm i would recomend checking out the abit is7 or ic7. I have personally had favorable experiences with the epox 4pca3+. I would hold off on asus for now...they have some voltage regulation problems and dont hit very high overclocks. For the most part msi is good...their dynamic overclocking feature might be a plus for you...other than that their boards are OK. The good thing about abits 865/875 motherboards is they are pretty cheep and loaded with features. But as long as you get an i865 or i875 based motherboard you should be OK.

If it isn't a P6 then it isn't a processor

I would recomend Abit IC7 or IS7 series for OC. I currently have an Asus P4C800 Deluxe, it is anawesome board, it has a pretty decent oc, most seem to max out around 243 FSB with a 2.4 or 2.6 c's. But like P3 man said, their volts are horrible, my volts some times go from 1.6 all the way to 1.78!!!! and I have an Antec True Power 380 ps, and many others complain about he same thing, the jumpy volts limit their ocability, I just sold my asus and am getting an Abit IC7-Max3 for OC. Both companies offer 3 year warranties, so you should be safe with either Asus or Abit in that area. If you dont go with either company, most of the other companies are just as good, just diff features and extras. Hope this helps, good luck.

512mb OCZ DDR533
(No vid card, waiting to return Asus 9800 and get a 128 9800P that will oc more than a measly 4%)

Thanks, for the sound advice, I'm pretty close to a decision here and with a choise some way of what I'd personally researched, and you provide sound and justified details, thanks guys.

NOW, can I just swap them over, MSI645 for Abit and get away without a complete sys re-install!!

I plan to use all my previous hardware and map PCI for PCI.
Any thing else I should do.

I have MSI live updates on the current sys, so i'll Un-Install all MSi goddies first..

When switching mobo's I've always reformated etc. to ensure that I didn't have conflicts with the different chipset drivers.

But others have taken your proposed route (no reformat) and claim success. Anyway, here's an article on how to change w/o reformat http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=113

Hope it helps and good luck
