Mobo will not read my GPU Asrock Z97X Fatality

My motherboard is not recognizing my GPU, MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G. I know the card is receiving power, as the white LED logo is lit up, but the board is not detecting it, even using the bios system view it thinks all my PCI slots are empty, I have attempted placing the card in PCI-E slots 2 and 4, as I thought maybe the sata ports on the far end were keeping the card from sitting correctly in slot 2
