I took out my 8GB memory stick (working just fine) and replaced with 16GB (2x8GB) in the A2 and B2 slots (2nd and 4th from the CPU). Wouldn't boot (orange DRAM light, black screen but the power is on because my gfx card and fans are turned on). I then removed the stick from the B2 slot - still won't boot up.

More details -
Asus TUF Z270 Mark 2
i7 7700K with Hyper Evo 212 cooler
Old ram (working): 8GB Corsair LPX Vengeance 2400Mhz (CMK8GX4M1A2400C14) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UVN2C8O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
New ram (not working - tried one and both sticks): 16GB (8GB x2) Corsair LPX Vengeance 3000Mhz (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0134EW7G8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The old stick was 1.2V and the new stick is 1.35V. Is the mobo supposed to automatically recognize the new ram and adjust settings? There are 3 settings in the bios - Auto, Manual, and XMP. I've tried both Auto and XMP and haven't been able to get it to boot.

Things I've already tried:

  1. Resetting CMOS
  2. Asus's MemOK on the motherboard
  3. Putting the old stick in, turning on XMP in the bios, turning off the PC, switching to the new ram, and rebooting

If you've tried each new module in every slot and it's not posting, most likely the kit is faulty.
There shouldn't be any incompatibility between the mobo and your kit(CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 appears on your motherboard memory QVL list) and you've tried everything basically.

Solution: RMA the kit.

You may need to pull out the CPU and reseat it. Check the CPU socket for bent pins before putting the CPU back in. Reset the bios and put the new modules back in the board and then let the system try to boot and do it;s memory training. If the system hasn't booted after 5-6 minutes then something else is wrong and it may be the memory has a problem or the actual slots themselves.
