Ok so I was searching for a used Z170 motherboard for my next build, and I saw a very cheap Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. which made me wonder why its so cheap.

on the sale post it stated that the motherboard only works with i5 because of a bent pin.

my question is, is a bent pin can affect if the motherboard can work only with 1 kind of CPU? isnt all of them using the same pins exactly?

Here's what a socket pin map looks like.

You can see from the labels that there a some duplicates and idle pins so that two and four core processors, with and without Hyperthreading, with and without iGPU all fit in and run on the socket.

I don't have a modern map. This is an old one for a LGA 1155 socket, but the LGA 1151 will be generally similar.

If you do not know what you are doing and know 100% what the extent the damage is, never ever buy second hand hardware, especially something as crucial as the motherboard. You might save 100 bucks in the short term, but down the track there will be more problems you cannot forsee.
