Mobo worth keeping? 1. concern Modren WarFare 2

I'm builing a new system hopefully this week.

I have a m2n vm Dvi which i got for like 20$ from a friend. It only supports a max 95 watts cpus so whats the fastest cpu i can get, i saw a amd 6000+ 3.1ghz dual core that runs at 89watts but also have read that it dosen't work that great with this mobo in particular.

If i get a processor for this mobo will i regret it sooner rather then later?

or should i just get a newer mobo and open up my list of possible cpus?

biggest concern ... mordern warfare 2. It dosen't have to be maxed but id like to run it and look pretty.

spend the extra on a new mobo and cpu, try the AMD 940 BE and a Gigabyte/ASUS/Biostar motherboard, since it will probably support 4 cores. and you'll want a 4890 too if you want to play it well.

however for all this you'll probably need a new PSU.

I'm only guessing Modern Warfare 2 will be base on the same COD4 engine, which wasn't THAT demanding. Hopefully it will support DX10 though.

Do you think the quad is really necessary? same with the 4890? i could get 2 4770 for that price, if i get a new mobo with 2 slots.

I don't think a quad is necessary. Games right now favor higher clock rates.

I'd take a 4890 over (2) 4770's any day. The 4890 OCes very well, also. It would have a higher resell value compared to the 4770's as well next time you want to upgrade.

the 940 is a nice, but for 40 $ mroe i could get the 945 and will having the AM3 tech be better off in the long run?

yeah but you lose the BE'ness of the 940 and am3 is getting replaced a year or so from now.

Ok so you also say go with the 4890... which one theres like 4 or 5 with a 60$ price difference, which is the right one.

I see some have TV out(HDTV) which would be nice seeing as i have a 42 inch bravia 1080p.
others with direct X 10.1. but if i wanted a great card with the hdtv option can i get away with a 4870?
it also has hdtv out. what do you recommend.?
I would only like to pay over 300 for a video card if it was really that much better, if it's not that big a differece i'd like to save the 100$ and get the 4870 or is that a mistake.

well a 4890 will provide anything from a 10-20% difference in games vs the 4870, so it's your choice, but don't forget that the 1GB 4870 are still close in price to the 4890 and you'll want 1GB of vRam for your resolution.

If i where you op i would save that motherboard...depending on cod's scalability i expect it to run decently on the rig iv pieced together from parts i had lying around and donated...total i have in it is 30$ so i can't harp if it doesn't run well i have a stronger rig and by than il have a phenom II build...


AMD 4400+ @ 2.6ghz
2GB...will upgrade to 3 or 4gb soon...
9800GTX+ @ 830mhz if need be

That is the jist of it...since your motherboard should have bios overclocking find a cheap 2.6 or 2.7 ghz processor on ebay and just take it too the 3ghz range...if its the same engine as Jay said it will run just fine on an X2 at that speed...

Throw some other cheap parts onto it and you may have something decent that can run cod 6...sell it too a friend or keep it as a secondary rig...you may just make some profit on it if you don't mind hipping its capability's up 😉

Of course the foremost thing to do is get your primary rig setup...than worry about a secondary rig that friends could use when they comeover or as a cheap file server or internet browser etc

Thats 100% serious...not everything i did to get there was morally right and legal....i think the risk turns me on in a sick way...

Best of luck...hopefully a dual core processor will be enough for modern warfare 2...
