Well, it's been a little while, and the last couple of mods I tried,
after your stirling advice, worked wonderfully. They were a bit silly,
though, so I decided to try a couple of others.
I downloaded one called Waves of Chaos, another called Dark
something-or-other, and the Eastern Sun one ...
Anyway, none of them seem to be working. I don't know if I'm trying to
patch in versions that are too advanced, if I need to install beta or
earlier versions first and move up from there... here's a couple of
examples.
The Eastern Sun mod - I follow the instructions carefully, and it
tells me that once I have installed and run it correctly, the opening
screenshot will be different. Well, that much works. The picture is
entirely different - a mountain snowscape. But then, when I click on
the "single player" option, it freezes. I mean, the computer seizes
up.
The Waves of Chaos mod - same thing. I load it up the way it says,
direct-txt it and all, and it opens with a funky new screen shot. This
time I click single player, it takes me to the choose-a-character
screen ... and *then* freezes.
The Darkness thingy was similar, only I got to the new-image opening
screen and it froze ... but when I followed the readme more exactly, I
couldn't even get the opening screenshot to work. It just ran D2 like
usual.
So anyhoo, I'm throwing myself on your wisdom. Again. If you know of
any way to get these mods to work, or of any place I might be able to
download more interesting mods (the Darkness one sounded very cool,
with all the new scrolls and equipment and lack of gold and all...),
well, any help you can give would be very greatly appreciated, as
always.
I also tried to find the Chaos Empires mod, but maybe it's just for
Battlenet. I should stress that I'm pretty much SP all the way.
