hello, I have a basic cpu question: Does a cpu's model # always have the same frequency?

for instance, my Athlon xp 1600+ -- I see under My Computer properties that it runs at 1.4 Ghz. Does this mean that all 1600+ run at this frequency?

-------------------------------------------------
Athlon64 Newcastle, 2800+, 640KB Cache, 1800 MHz
MSI K8M Neo-V, VIA K8M800 + 8237 chipset
Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 256MB

Only till they are properly OCed.
All of the early xp chips were multiplier locked, and ran @ an fsb of 133. Each designation ran at it's own base speed.
Some would start at 3/4ths rated, because the fsb had defaulted to 100.

Does a cpu's model # always have the same frequency?
No. AMD doesn't base the model number just on the frequency alone. Things like cache size and FSB can also affect the #. While most of AMD's model numbers will be unique, some do overlap.

For example, and AXP 2600+:
1) 2133MHz @ 266MHz FSB w/256KB cache
2) 2083MHz @ 333Mhz FSB w/256KB cache
3) 1917MHz @ 333MHz FSB w/512KB cache
