Hi,

For the past year or so my modem has been rebooting every day at around 6pm. On weekends its more like 8 or 9 times during the day. Ive spoken with my isp (videotron) many times and they've always sent techs who do the same thing each time and switch out the modem for a new one. The thing is the problem continues to happen regardless of what they do. After my last call with them they now think its my homes electrical wiring thats causing the modem to have power fluctuations and start to reboot itself. They advised me to plug it into a different outlet. This did not change anything and the problem continues to happen.

The strange thing is that it shuts off at 6 (give or take 10min) Every. Single. Day. Which to me doesn't seem like it would be an electrical problem because this happens even when I'm the only one home and there are almost no lights or appliances on in the house.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me get to the bottom of this.

Thank you,
Adam

What does the log say about those times? I'm not sure what yours has or how to access it. I go to Administration tab and click on system logs. Maybe this is something you and your ISP discover together. Let's find something about that. https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1971787-modem-reboots-same-time-every-day presents a similar issue.

Mon Mar 06 10:17:30 2017 Critical (3) Resetting the cable modem due to docsDevResetNow

was the reason for the reset. What your ISP can do about it is something idk.

I think that is a SNMP command. Your modem is being remotely rebooted.

It sounds similar but i dont see a solution for him either. Where can i find information on my modem that can hepl?

Your ISP has the solution. They are the ones restarting it. They need to discover why.

Where did you get that error message from? I never was able to find information for the shutdowns from my modem

Sorry, I assumed. It just makes sense that a daily reset would be a problem on their end.

Call your ISP. Ask them how to locate the modem's logs. I think that is where the problem is.

I have actually and all they could tell me what that the issue was with the electrical circuitry and that it may have messed up the internal hard ware of the modem. Is this even possible? seems odd that it would mess it up every time in a way that it fails daily at the same time

The electrical circuitry messed up the modem causing a daily reset at the exact same time? No.

You need to find those logs for when those failures happened. They are being lazy and trying for the easy out.
