Hi everyone as I'm looking for a modem router combined with Link aggregation currently only seems to be routers that have this feature but I'd prefer to have one device if possible and the modem also needs to allow for vdsl/2. Does anyone know of a brand that has these options?

Thanks in advance.

Normally this function is used on a switch with a lot of other machines.

In most cases it buys you nothing in a home environment. It will not make you internet run faster because the speed you buy from the ISP limits you.

Because of the way link aggregation works you can never use more than 1 of the 2 connections to transfer a single file. Even if you were to transfer data from 2 different machine to the server it has the possibility to put both connection on the same cable and leave the other unused. It is a simple mathematical selection it does not look at utilization.

It is really designed for a large number of client machines to access a central server. The randomness of the session will cause it to more or less load balance over both.

Because of these limitation link aggregation is not used much anymore in commercial installation because of the easy availability of 10g ports. Pretty much large installation only use it as a form of redundant connection to some very special enterprise level switches.

Look for asus modem/router, some have dual wan support. I personally have dsl-ac68u and it have dual wan, and on it you can select from dsl, usb and lan as primary/secondary, but you cant have same type on both. As for what type of dual wan it is, there is fail over to switch to secondary when primary wan goes down or load balance, where it uses both at same time.
