Recently i had to unplug my modem while my pc was running with an ethernet cable plugged in. Could this create a voltage spike and ruin the ethernet port on the motherbord?
Ok so would could the issue be because every cable i plug in works fine with my xbox one but no my pc. Could it simply be that the jack in my room is bad or say one of my netgear ethernet switches is dying?
Try switching the port that your room is plugged into.
If it works you have a port on the netgear that is bad. If it does not work then the line to your room is bad.
Yes, try another port on the switches one at a time to see if the connection comes back, if you have a long enough cable, bypass the room jack and go straight to a switch to rule out the PC's network card.
