Hi,

So here is my problem. I have an issue with my router not working when connected through a walljack that I know works.

Let me explain:

I have a fibre connection with a basestation connected in my cellar. This is connected through an RJ45 walljack I set up, that I know works. I have used it for a long while and am using it as we speak, I just bought a standalone router, ASUS RT-AC1200G+ and when I connect the router through the RJ45 walljack it doesn't work. However, when I connect the router to the basestation, bypassing the walljack by running a cable through the cellar door, it works perfectly.

I have tried opening the walljacks on both ends of the wall, I have one on the cellar side and one on the living room side, and reconnecting the wires to make sure there aren't any issues there: it works perfectly when I draw the cable directly to my PC, however, when I draw the cable through to the new router it does not work.

Any ideas?

Solution
Alright, so I ended up swapping out the walljacks with more expensive walljacks and it seems that was the issue. I also bought a cheap lantester and tested with it, seemed it worked, but sometimes messed up with the old jacks. With the new jacks that I installed, the router works perfect as well as the tester doesn't have any issues anymore.

Thanks for the help.
Because it works with one device doesn't mean it is 100% correct. When you connect to your PC does it show gigabit or 100Mbit?

I would recommend getting a cable tester like this --https://www.amazon.com/Klein-VDV526-052-Scout-Junior-Tester/dp/B004CI9NRM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1455461789 Verify that you have 8 cables straight through and that your are following the 568B color code.

Hey, thanks for the response.

First, I have naturally run it on several computers before without a problem (it's connected via the walljack into an 8-port gigabit zyxel switch) and all computers have run flawlessly on this setup. And yes it shows up as connected with 1Gb.

When I run it through the walljack into the router then to the switch it doesn't work, but when I run it outside the walljack through the router to the switch it does work.

The walljack is connected as shown on the walljack connector itself (it has A or B options marked) and I've connected according to the B-standard on the plug itself.

It doesn't really make any sense to me why it shouldn't work when it works on all computers I've had connected to it. Over the last year or so, there's been at least 6 different computers connected to the switch which is connected to the walljack.

Guess I might have to end up buying a cable tester as it might be interference on the signal that the router is sensitive to, but I'll have to wait till the morning... it's past midnight here now. I was hoping there was something stupid I had missed looks like not. 🙁

Absolutely, this is not a Fluke Lan quality tester. BUT 9 times out of 10, if all 8 wires are connected and you follow the color code correctly all the way through it will work. Without some way to verify that all 8 are correct and the color code was followed, then it is difficult to troubleshoot.
