Modem with lowest ping

Like I said in the past I tried every modem and router out there and they all had different ping measures and I was just wondering if anyone out there knows which modem and router are the best for gaming and which ones have lowest latency?

Solution
You can also ping your modem or router directly. Run "ipconfig /all" and note the default gateway's IP ( typically 192.168.1.1 on an ISP's provided hardware that hasn't been customized ). Then ping that address ( "ping 192.168.1.1" ).

Theoretically, yes, a modem or router can affect your overall latency to a game server, but only as the data packets are traversing the device ( meaning a modem or router may be slightly slower or faster in how it processes and hands off data packets, but it absolutely cannot affect traffic or latency on data that has already been transmitted by it ). It is possible you may find one that is faster than another in terms of latency ( overall bandwidth is another matter, as is QoS as RL said...
'Modems" don't have a 'ping'.

A 'ping' is the time for a round trip from your system to whatever server and back. Once that signal goes outboard of your PC, there is little you can do to influence that.

With a PC wired to the router, doing a 'ping' to anywhere, should result in <1ms between your PC and the router.
Any router.
After the router, it is mostly out of your hands.

Wired from modem to computer directly I never had a 1ms for ping. Lowest I had was 14ms and that was on the SB6183 Arris modem. Every other modem I tried like Netgear CM500 went over 25ms and more.

That says it was a different time of day, talking to a different server, or other congestion.

I understand what you are saying.
But 'ping' does not work like that.

Your signal to wherever is a series of hops.
PC->router->modem->ISP->off into the ether.
Once the signal leaves your modem and talks to the ISP...the modem no longer matters.

I don't think so. Every modem and router had a different ping and it would stay trough the whole day or week.

I invite you to describe how a different modem or router can influence the signal transit time over multiple hops outboard of your modem.

If a particular 'modem' had influence over ping time, then that manufacturer would be shouting it from the treetops.
The exact same router, in your house and my house, will result in a different 'ping time', going to the same server.

Or, from a single house, the same router will result in a different 'ping time' if talking to different servers.

I'm using my ISPs modem now and still using my old AC1900 nighthawk and I get 23ms when I do a speed test wired on my computer or wireless on my phone. I get 68ms on my xbox one. So it's a little higher than what my SB6183 was but still ok. I wish I took some screen shots of every speed test I did with every modem and router so I can somehow post em on here. You can do what I did and go try all routers and modems and see what you get for results.

You can buy them all at best buy and return them all to best buy within 15 days if you don't like them.

if your modem comes with a BROADCOM chipset it does affect the ping mate , my parents have a modem like that and sometimes i move my chassis all the way upstairs just to play with their internet , mostly mortal kombat , the network adapter can matter too , if it's a killer network adapter , it does affect your gaming ! i don't know if it's the ping or not but it really does , so if you got a broadcom modem with a killer network adapter then your gaming experience will be different , just saying ...

dsl is better ping wise , i dunno maybe i'm wrong but cable is not worth the money

You know what ping is. What it does. And lowest ping the better. And yeah. Once again. I did my research and found out that not all modems or routers have the same ping. I guess anything under 100ms shouldn't even be noticable when playing games online but lower the better. Reaction is faster. If you don't play first person shooter games than you probably don't know.

I makes sense but I have it wired to my xbox one. It goes from modem to router wired than wired from router to xbox one. And now after I got my modem router figured out my isp said I can't use my equipment anymore cause it's not supported by them anymore so now my ping and latency is all out of wack again. Reaction is not as fast anymore.

a router always makes it somewhat laggy , but not too laggy , maybe your xbox is updating something ? cause i've never heard of an isp not supporting a specific router , if the modem gets to pass the internet to the router , then the router's brand is non of their business

You kow which model might be the best or just any japanese linksys modem?

No the modem. They won't let me use my own modem anymore. It has to be one of their certified and supported modems. I use my router. Same one still. Nighthawk R7000

i know the x series which are router-modems come with broadcom chipsets , like the x-3000 , x-3500 and so forth , i used to own an x-3000 and it's really a decent experience ... the basic dsl modems are designated as WAG like wag-120 , 160 and so forth i'm not sure about them ... if i manage to save my money i probably buy another linksys modem myself
