Modern card comparable to X800 / GeForce 6800

I need to build a computer that will be running an application having a GPU requirement "GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon X800, or similar". What modern cards are comparable to those ones? The computer is not used for gaming.

The 4650 and 9500GT are both better than the 6800 and x800 as far as latest tech goes. check out this chart for mroe possibilities:

Well, most modern cards would be able to handle that, but if you want to be sure look at the articles on Toms titled "Best video cards for July" and at the end they have a hierarchy chart that shows relative performance of video cards. Anything above the geforce 6800 would work for you.

In other words, there are too many to list here.

We need to know the application you are building this computer for. The GPU requirement just means the oldest supported chipset for that application and not so much the performance required for a non hair-pulling experience.

It all depends. If you're looking for a modern card with similar rough power (god knows why, maybe old games) as a gf 6800 ultra / ati x800 XT, you might look at a radeon 4670 or a geforce 9600gs, but a radeon 4650 or geforce 8600 gt are enough to outperform those olddies in most modern games, mainly because modern cards can handle ps3.0 and HDR much better (I think x800 don't even support these features....)

Any low end card (such as the 4650 mentioned) is a few tiers higher than the x800 or 6800. This would only eb an issue if the OP chose an equivalent card, which would be a challenge given how old it would have to be.

A 9500GT or Radeon 4650 would be at that level, if not a little above. I guess you could even count the Radeon 3650 there, but it's really a little slower than the other two cards in most cases.

If you're doing any 3d modeling you will appreciate a faster card so you may want to go with a Radeon 4670 instead.

OP: What is your intended budget?

@ 55 dollars the 9600GSO 384 is a steal. 35 dollars after rebate.

@ 75 dollars you have the 4670's, 9600gt's, perhaps a few 4850's counting rebates.

What application are you running?

Thanks for your replies, just what I was looking for! I was thinking if even HD3450 would be enough, but it seems I need to stick to at least HD3650, preferably HD4650. Now just need to find the best price (Europe).
