[SOLVED] Modern GPU pair for i5 7600k?

Brother has been using this computer for about three years now. Was a definite budget build and we built it with an i5 7600k and a 1050 ti. The 1050 ti is obviously not the greatest and is starting to have cooling issues, so I figured might as well get a new GPU for Christmas. So my question is, is it worth upgrading to a more modern pair for the 7600k? Or would it be better to try to upgrade to a better Z270 chip along with a new GPU?

What is the make/model of the current motherboard?
I doubt that you would get any benefit from changing that.
The 7600K is still a good chip.
A gpu update would be a fine gift.
First, though, find out the make/model of the power supply.
A very minimal psu can run a GTX1050ti.

I would think a GTX1660 class card would be a good upgrade.
The higher the resolution of your monitor, the more important the graphics card becomes.

Motherboard is an msi z270 a pro. Psu is a Corsair cx550. Monitor is 1080p 60hz, but it’s a problem of barely getting 60fps on low settings so maybe getting a better gpu could allow for higher settings and/or frames.

With a Z270 based motherboard, you can overclock your 7600K if you need more cpu capability.
As of 6/19/17

at a vcore around 1.4v.

To assess if a stronger graphics card would do you some good, run this simple test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.
