Modify external hard drive to have FW800 in stead of USB2

Is it possible to upgrade an external hard drive to have FW800 in stead of USB2?

I've got this 3TB external drive I would like to upgrade...

Rebuilding the interface should be possible I guess.

Yes, you will need to purchase an (empty) external FW800 drive enclosure that supports 3TB drives. Then its as simple as removing the drive from your usb2 enclosure and installing it in the FW800 enclosure.

edit - this is provided that the current enclosure isnt adding some kind of encryption to the drives contents.
