Molex adapter caught fire

So the molex adapter (been on the PC since I built it 6.5 years ago) caught fire today. It also burned off the cable cover for another power cable from the power supply.

My question is, is it more likely that the adapter went bad or the power supply? I've cleaned up the box but still have yet to reconnect everything and power it back up. In case it helps, the power supply is a corsair gold 850tx.

You say its a molex adapter, but molex to what? Can you post a picture of the damage?

Most likely a cheaply made adapter.
Your PSU is probably* fine, but there is always the chance its not.
