Molex Adapter for 6 Pin

Hi everyone, my PSU Is a Fractal Design R2 500W PSU that can handle a gtx 970 as I know of. However the problem is it only has a 6+2 pin.

Is it okay if i used a molex adapter to get the 2nd 6 pin, because most of them require 2x6 pin. Thank you guys.

Which GTX 970 are you using that requires 2 x 6 pin connectors? It's only a 145W card. Most have a single 6 pin header.

a lot of them have two 6 pins like the zotac one but I can find one with a single 8 or 6 I guess

If you stumble across a GTX 970 that requires more than a single 6 pin, there's no reason you can't use a splitter..

... or the Molex adapter that comes with most cards. I would recommend the spliter though to keep the power on the rail designed for the card if you PSU is multi-rail.

Normally, I wouldn't recommend using a 6 pin to 2 x 6 pin splitter to power a card that has 2 x 6 pin headers. But in the case of the GTX 970 (which is only a 145W card at max), the splitter would be acceptable and would keep the current on the rail designed for the gfx card. However, if your PSU is a single rail unit, then it won't matter. You can use which ever is more convenient.

There is one more caveat, though...
If you intend on overclocking the GTX 970, it would be best to use the Molex adapter in that case. The PCIe slot has a 75W capacity. The 6 pin connector provides another 75W capacity for a total of 150W. OC'ing the card may take its power usage above 150W.
