Hi there!

I'm planning to add an SSD to my setup (Samsung 860 EVO 500GB ). The problem is that no free cable remained from the PSU with SATA end. Only one molex type. So I searched on the internet and saw that these actually can catch fire at the SATA end.

This guy speaks about what should I look for when buying one:

Searching on webshops I've found one which he sonsiders 'OK' in the video: AKASA AK-CBPW01-30
This is my best find currently.

I took a look at my other PSU from my prevoius PC, which is a Corsair CX430. It served me well from 2014 to 2020 approx. It has a tone of SATA ends, but I've read here in one of the sticky threads that it is considered a low tier PSU and should be avoided. (even though I had no problems with it at all)

So my question is: should I buy an adapter or change the PSU?

Current PSU: Diamant 330u 550W

It is possible that I will check for an adapter in a shop, but before that I would like to know your thoughts/opinions about these adapters.

Solution
Over the years, components have shifted from 5v reliant to needing much more wattage on the 12v rail.

The 550w PSU has 22amps on the 12v rail.

The CX430 has 32amps on the 12v rail.

For any semi modern computer like yours, the CX430 actually has more useful wattage.

That is a 20 year old power supply.

Haha, I knew it isn't new, but 20 years?! Damn it is ancient. I bought my PC from an used-computer shop, that is the reason I have it. Moreover it has 550w while the Corsair has 430w, that' is the only reason I haven't changed it yet. Not sure if the Corsair has enough power for this setup (+ addditional SSD).

My specs are:
MB: ASUS H81m PLUS
HDD: Western Digital 500GB SATA 3.5 (wdc wd5000aakx-08u6a)
2x4 GB Kingston DDR3 RAM 1600Mhz
Intel i5 4460
Nvidia GT 730 2GB GDDR5
CPU cooler: Intel E97378-001
DVD ROM: TSSTcorp CDDVDW sh-224db
Monitor: Samsung s22c150n

For now I'd swap in the CX430.

Yeah, that is exactly what I will do. Thank you for the heads up! Then my problem is officially solved. :D

It's not a 550w PSU. It has 22a at 12v and that's 264w. CX430 has 32A at 12v, 384w. Also quality wise CX430 is much better.

Well, then the Corsair will do the job.

What country are you in and what is your budget?

I'm from Hungary. About the budget...well I want to keep it as low as possible. I'm a gamer, but I am more interested in older games(2000-2014 era), so I won't need a high end PC either.

I would be grateful if you recommend a PSU which can supply enough power to my setup.
