Monitor + Audigy Problem

I have been experiencing a very weird problem for the last couple of months.
While I am using my computer, the screen turns BLACK out of the blues. I tried to figure out this problem. I realized that my monitor just TURNS OFF as if I shut down my computer WHILE the computer is actually still working. And the monitor’s power indicator “green colored” keeps blinking (= power saving mode) instead of glowing green (= normal operation).
I tried the Power Options from the Control Panel and I set the “Turn off monitor”, “Turn off hard disks” and System standby to NEVER. But it didn’t solve the problem.
I used to have a CRT 17 inch LG Flatron ez T710BH. I recently bought an LCD Samsung SyncMaster 172t. And I still have the same problem, so it is obviously not related to the monitor.
My graphics card is ATI Radeon 9500 PRO.
One more thing which might be causing this hardware conflict … When I double click my surround mixer … It says “SB Audigy 2 [B000]” and sometimes “SB Audigy 2 [6000]”. Notice the “B” & the “6” …. What could be possibly causing this?
I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 (6.1) and it works fine both ways.

Any help would be greatly appreciated concerning the monitor and the sound card problem.

When the monitor turns off, can you hit the power button and it goes back on? I would try updating all your drivers. If that doesn't help, try removing the Audigy 2 card. Try running the onboard sound, and see if that fixes the problem.

I have this machine going for like 6 months and this problem started like a couple of months ago. I have to add that this problem is not consistent ... it happens from time to time .... sometimes 2 or 3 times per day .... and other times once every couple of weeks.
If i hit the power button of my screen it means that i shut down the monitor. The only way to get it back working is to hit the reset button from my computer case to restart the computer.
My drivers are up to date. I will try to remove the Audigy 2 card and enable the onboard sound as you said ... maybe it will help.

Disable power options in BIOS as well... they can override Windows's settings.

I don't think this has anything to do with your soundcard. If turning the monitor off and on doesnt solve it, but resetting the computer does, its more likely your radeon, try updating those drivers and check ATI knowledge base

maybe your video card is overheating? do you have any extra case fans to help airflow through your case?

try taking the side off the case and pointing a Housefan into it. if that helps, then heat is your problem...

That is very funky stuff going on so funky checks need to be done. First of all of cource update the drivers. Then clean your machine from spyware. Reinstall DX9. Then make sure the sound card and AGP card are not sharing IRQ ports. May need to reinstall windows but just for giggles move your sound card to a different PCI slot.

Also what PSU are you using? What is the AGP voltage in your BIOS set to?

The cause of your problem is the Ati Drivers.
I've been experiencing this same issues, since I updated to 4.5 Cats. And even with the 4.6 Cats I still have it.
Only for OPENGL games though. I don't get it on the desktop.

there is a huge thread going on at Rage3d about this. alot of people experience it and others don't. I previous didn't experience it until recently. Have had my Radeon 9700pro for almost 2 years problem free.

Some users suggest turning off Fast write in Smartgart and the bios.

or turning AGP to 4x instead of 8X try it and see if it helps.
