Monitor best for Photography?

Hello,
Im a serious digital photographer, and im looking into LCD screens for my pc. I need a monitor that is especially good for photographs. some of the monitors i have seen have trouble with shades or gentle transition of colors, like pixelation. What monitors should i be looking at. preferable 17-19 inch.

the cheaper you go the more problems you're going to run into with shades of colors etc. i don't know how much cheaper a smaller size is, but when it comes to LCD if you want photo accurate images then you're going to be spending some cash. It all depends on how accurate you want the colors to be. There are plenty of cheap LCDs out there but not that many are very good with color, in my humble opinion. I'm still on a CRT monitor for my photos. Saving up for the big purchase of a photo quality LCD.

any suggestions in a 17"? i tried searching the display section, but Tom's guide only speaks of 19". is there a way i can access archives?

Also, I recall that most LCDs are 6-bit... make sure you get a 8-bit since you want to use it for photography.

Yeah, I phrased my sentence badly; it sounded like I was saying there are no IPS panels in 19". I just don't know of any. ...and you can't easily look for it either, since that information is not readily available on any spec site.

Know of any others Hose?

Off hand, that is the only one which comes to mind.

FWIW... NEC is a high quality maker, my favorite, and should be considered by any prospective buyer.
