I usually have my desktop connected thru HDMI cord on flat screen tv. I moved it to my 17" monitor today and it says "check display cable". It worked with my other desktop fine.
I tried unplugging and replugging
Removing battery from motherboard for several minutes.
Not sure what to do?
New gfx card Radeon RX 480 so know there's no issue there since it worked fine on tv.

Solution
You can use a DVI monitor cable to your monitor directly. You can get a DVI to D-Sub cable or an DVI to D-Sub adapter (and use a regular VGA D-Sub cable). Either path will allow you to graphics card and monitor together. The DVI cable from your GPU to monitor will give you the best video results.

Your best option is a new monitor. That will allow 1080p graphics at a minimum cost. And for a bit more you can get a gaming monitor.
Actually updated my gpu to Radeon RX 480..freaking huge lol..way bigger than my last..
I read online something about maybe needing a VGI/DVI adapter?
The monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 906BW
Windows 10
AMD FX 6300 - Vishera 6core 3.5ghz (4.1ghz turbo)S
MSI R7770-PMD1GD5 RADEON HD 7770 GHZ EDITION 1GB 1
2x CORSAIR VENGEANCE 8GB 240-PIN DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760DG+ SB710 MICRO
SEAGATE BARRACUDA ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB CA-OEM
CORSAIR CX SERIES CX500 500W ATX12V V2.3 80 PLUS B+50
RAIDMAX VORTEX ATX-404WB BLACK STEEL/PLASTIC ATX
COOLER MASTER HYPER 212 EVO-CPU COOLER WITH 120

The DVI adapter just gives you the option of using a monitor with an old style VGA (D-Sub) monitor cable.

Samsung no longer has a web page for this monitor. If the model number that you listed is correct, then the monitor doesn't support HDMI. The specifications are listed below. I would suggest a DVI cable for this monitor. That will give you the best result. Th D-Sub is also a possibility.

Yea this monitor has the old style monitor plug..i wish I could add photos haha..either way I had the tower originally connected via HDMI cord through my tv..no pc monitor...now I am trying to hook simply to my pc monitor...i hooked up the monitor cord to my pc via the motherboard input..im thinking maybe there's a cord that instead could go from my gfx card to the monitor ? Otherwise I may just buy new monitor
