Monitor choices 27" 2k for gaming

I'm looking for a good monitor to use as my main gaming screen and I'll use my current one as a second screen for whatever use I find for it. I've never seen any of these 144hz 1ms displays but I've been looking at these few and was wondering which one might be the better choice. I don't play much if any fps games, mostly mmo and rpg style stuff.
These are the ones I've been looking at but if there are others I should also consider let me know. My current monitor is a BenQ GW2765HT and its got a dead pixel after about a month.

I've been partial to IPS since it just sounds like they provide better color. I'd also consider suggestions for 4K monitors but I'm using one 970 so I'm not sure whether running a 4K monitor with medium high graphics would still perform ok with a 970? My second(current) monitor will likely be used for having a browser window up, I don't plan on doing anything intensive with it.

IPS are going to have slightly lower GTG responses, not much, but a tad. But do get an IPS, they are a much superior viewing experience. The two to look for are the ASUS and the BPRZ Acer model. All the rest are TNs which are fine, but not as nice.
With a 970, you won't reach anywhere near the 144 mark. If, you added a second card, you would get closer. To be frank, the only certain way to get the 144hz to be meaningful is to have 980tis in sli. It requires a lot of graphics muscle to get 144 fps from a 1440 monitor. I have a pair of 780 tis and when running furmark, without AA on, I get about 60-80fps(I have an Overlord Tempest 1440 IPS). My 780tis are tuned up(Over 25000 firestrike graphics score). I'm not kidding 1440 needs big muscles.

now is hz the same as fps or do they just go hand in hand? I'm happy with 60fps on my games, sure more is better but I haven't gotten too deep into that yet.
So are there good 1440p 27" IPS choices that are along the same quality as these? Or would the ASUS PG278Q work if I just set it for 60Hz?

My reaction is that for non fast action gaming, you are on the wrong track with fast response monitors and g.sync.

Larger screens are more immersive for mmo, sims, and strategy games.
One option might be a 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor. I have used a Nixeus VUE 30 which is excellent.

Really, though, consider a Philips 40" 4k monitor.

You can find reviews of the monitor for color specs. I have no issue with it.

Smaller 4k monitors will have text that is tiny.
I ran OK with a base GTX780 which is, perhaps not quite the equivalent of your GTX970.
You might have to reduce aa settings, but that is no real negative because of the higher resolution.
My recollection is that 30fps was about the minimum, and fluctuated up to 60fps which is the limit of the monitor(and for many games too)

And, I still have a 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor sitting next to it.
The side monitor seems to not have any impact on gaming at all.

I recently purchased a Dell 2716DG, which is essentially an ROG Swift (with better QA). Got it for around 550, so it's also the least expensive 144hz 1440p G-Sync display.

The build quality is fantastic, and the viewing angles/colors/contrast are heads above better than my previous ACER 4K (G-Sync). The newer IPS G-Sync 144hz monitors look neat, but the crap shoot for a good monitor + added cost + slower response times doesnt make it the best decision IMO. 60hz is fine, remember, the monitors you're looking at are G-Synchs, they'll look smooth still. G-synch was really designed to do two things,(1) make Nvidia more money, and (2) make lower refresh rates nice and smooth. High refresh rates really don't need help smoothing things up, cause the issues get pushed out so quick, you don't notice em. Once again, high refresh rates need serious power though.
Something to keep in mind, you'll be using this monitor for a long time(maybe 10 years), buy the best you can afford now. I think the ASUS is probably the best. I've read that some of the early Acer BPRZs had some quality control issues, but I've also read that they seem to have the problems fixed.

That Phillips looks pretty awesome for the price, but also that's what concerns me. Seems like its got good reviews though. do you have any experience with it?

Yeah I noticed the reviews said a lot about Acers quality control. So the ASUS PA279Q right? not the ROG Swift cause that one doesn't appear to be IPS. Also checked out dells since they were mentioned and I have heard good things about their quality control. I have been using it for about a year.
It is very good.
The default menus were in Korean which took some time and google work to figure out.
The key is that DP1.2 is not the default setting, and that is needed to operate at 60hz.

So the Asus PG279Q monitor is 2k IPS but its 165hz, will it still run at 60hz like any other monitor?
