I am running XP Home on a HP PC with pentium 4. A couple of days ago I
developed a soft pink and green surround on the monitor screen, heavier at
the screen edge and fading to nothing an inch or two from the edge, normal
colors within this area. I have tried variations in settings, resolution etc
but nothing I have changed has affected the problem. Any ideas???

Have you tried degaussing the monitor? (Consult its manual if the
degauss button is not readily apparent.

Hi,

Check your monitor manual on how to degausse. Generally, most monitors have
a button for this, or do it automatically when you turn them off, then back
on.

Thanks for the replies folks, problem solved. I degaussed the monitor and the
shading intensified and increased covering a larger area of the screen. I
repeated the action and it reduced the size and intensity of the coloring.
After four or five attempts the screen image was perfect.
Thanks again, Forgeral.

One degaussing should be adequate. If problem returns replace the degaussing
triac. It may be failing to turn off.

I'm sorry, but did you just recommend that a regular end user follow a
course of action that involves opening the monitor housing?

If you know what that component is, then you are aware that monitors hold
enough potential to seriously injure and sometimes kill an untrained person
without the correct equiptment.

Absolute hogwash. This only comes from fear. If the line cord is unplugged,
there isn't enough power left to kill anyone.

Anyone with an Internet connection can read what you are posting. This is
not a given value of anyone. ANYONE.

Including children , people with heart conditions, and the stupid.

I don't really care so much if the stupid get a jolt or two, but those other
two groups don't deserve you endangering them.
