Monitor displays at 800x600 at startup win xp sp3

Hi. I am running windows xp pro sp3 with intel 82810 graphics adapter and p186h acer flatscreen monitor. My problem is this:
The monitor will only display at 800x600 resolution after reboot. However, if i unplug the monitor cable, boot up, and plug the cable back in I am then able to see the modes of display and change the resolution. After reboot without unplugging the monitor, the reolution is back to 800x600 and display modes are limited to this resolution.

Your monitor should have come with a monitor.inf file to install.

Thanks. I have tried that driver, uninstalling in safe mode and then re-installing
and also by using update driver in device manager. No luck either way. However, I shall try again.
