I’ve recently built a new computer, and I was able to install windows on it, but I’ve gotten no display.
The BIOS shows fine, and even the windows installation screens show fine, but the moment I get into windows, the monitor shows no signal and goes into sleep mode. I can still hear the Windows 11 startup sound, and all fans and lights are still running in the tower. I’m not sure what’s going on. I’ve tried different display cables, different monitors, and reseating the GPU, all with no effect. Did I do something wrong during installation? I’m not sure.
Specs:
Intel i5 13600K
AsRock Z790 PG SONIC R
Zotac GeForce RTX 4070 TI
Vetroo V5 Tower Air Cooler
Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5600Mhz
NZXT 80+ Gold 850 Watt PSU
WD Blue SN580 M.2 2TB
Lian Li Lancool 205 Mesh C

If it is driver related, you should be able to get into safe mode:

  • Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
  • Press the power button again to turn on your device.
  • On the first sign that Windows has started (for example, some devices show the manufacturer’s logo when restarting) hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
  • Press the power button again to turn on your device.
  • When Windows restarts, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
  • Press the power button again to turn on your device.
  • Allow your device to restart into Automatic Repair, and select Advanced options to enter winRE.

If you then see a picture, from the recovery menu you will be able to enter safe mode where if it's driver related, you can run DDU from a flash drive and remove the conflicting drivers.

Update: i’m able to boot into Windows via integrated graphics, if I set it as my main priority in BIOS. in task manager, it doesn’t show any sort of GPU being connected. Should I still run DDU, or is something else at play?

In task manager or device manager? In device manager you can unhide hidden devices, in case it's there for some reason and see if any errors are present

It shows in Device Manager, with the device status being “Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code: 43).” In Task Manager, it’s no longer present.

I'd run DDU to completely rule out driver issue, from then on it's probably hardware
i ran it in safe mode, restarted normally, and downloaded the latest nvidia drivers from geforce experience, and after installing them and going to restart, i got a BSOD saying “video tdr failure”, and then the issue persisted. theres no way this new 4070 ti is already cooked, right? also, it shows in both task and device manager.
*UPDATE*
newest issue is that i can get the GPU working on windows for a few seconds, but then it goes dark, restarts, and then i get the same issue as before.

It doesn't have to be cooked, just faulty. Do you have another card on hand to test?

No, try it out.
*UPDATE*
I returned the 4070 TI, requesting a replacement. It just came in today, and it’s presenting the same issues. I tried an older RTX 2060 on my system, and everything worked just fine. Even the 4070 TI works just fine, until graphics drivers are installed. The moment they’re installed, either by Windows during the setup process or by me when using GeForce experience, it’s like the card spits it out and disconnects from the monitor. The only thing I can think of is either a corrupt installation of Windows, a corrupt graphics driver (even though it’s the latest one from NVIDIA?), or it’s somehow another hardware failure, which I find to be absurd if I was just sent another new card after requesting a replacement.

They could have had a bad batch. Are you within the return period? Maybe see if you can get a different brand or even an amd card? I just got a 6800xt on sale the other day for 439.
i could, but i really wanna see if it’s truly a hardware issue first. it could be a faulty driver, a faulty windows update, or some incompatibility between the card and my motherboard that i’m unaware of. i’m gonna test it in a different rig tomorrow to further troubleshoot.

IT very well could be some incompatibility with the board. You may also reset your bios to default settings just in case you’ve got some setting turned on in there.

Silly question, how old is your psu?
It’s possible, however, I copied the build from
a YouTuber (Crater’s $1800 4070 TI Build), and using the same parts, his system seemed to work fine. My PSU came out in 2022, but I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks, I didn’t re-use any parts for this build. No question is too silly, though, I may have made a simple mistake that I just can’t find yet 🙁

Update: I’ve tried a new brand of 4070 TI, same issue. Maybe there’s a firmware update missing or something, this is just absurd at this point.
