Monitor displays nothing after graphics card is installed

Just finished my first PC build. When the graphics card is not in the PC, everything runs correctly. However, installing the card causes the monitor to no longer display anything. Does anyone know why this might happen?

Specs:
MB: Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H
CPU: Intel i3-4150
PSU: Corsair CX500
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 280X
OS: Windows 7

Are all your cables connected 4 pin, pcie ,12 also is your gpu connected to your monitor. Does the fan on the GPU spin up. Have you tested the parts before putting in the case? You may have a GPU that arrived dead. I would recommend sending it back if all your wires are connecterd.

that is what i have to do with my HP. enable my PCI-E as primary in Bios and it work.
