So my MSI MAG272QR monitor that I bought 3 weeks ago doesn't lock on 165 hz sometimes. As I am typing this it is locked on, but I feel like in certain apps, it goes up and down. I have the hz display enabled from MSI OSD software and you can see it attempt to go to 165 but its like changing so fast you cant even read what hz its at and then it locks on to 165. And when the hz starts bouncing up and down, you can see a very slight screen flicker in brightness or color, cant really tell, any reason why. Take this with a huge grain of salt, but i feel like its only when games or certain apps are open. Once again, i have never been more confused so please help.

Solution
Sorry for the late reply. I just seen you have enabled 165Hz in MSI OSD, but have you sellected 165Hz from the dispay adaptor settings?
  1. Right-click the windows desktop, and then click Personalize.
  2. Click Display.
  3. Click Change display settings.
  4. Click Advanced settings.
  5. Click the Monitor tab and change Screen refresh rate to 165 Hertz. (you may have to make a custom refresh rate profile)
Also be sure you have a HDMI2.0 cable from your GPU to your monitor. As a 1.4 only supports up to 120Hz. Then once you have that sorted you can use inspector to lock the fps in games to suit the 165Hz refresh rate. Also you may find you will have to change refresh rates depending on certain games. I'm not sure what...

I'm not sure what actually supports 165Hz. Most are only optimized for a max 144Hz.

So I did everything you said and i am using D, how do i use inspector to lock on 165 hz

As long as it's at least DisplayPort 1.2 you should be good. Inspector is used to lock fps to refresh rate. It can't be used to lock refresh rate, only fps. For example I'm running a 120Hz monitor and I play a fair bit of CS:GO. Once I have my display setting at 120Hz I use inspector to lock the fps to 120fps so I don't get tearing etc. Same with Fallout 4 (which is optimized for 60Hz) I change the display setting to 60Hz and lock the fps to 60fps.

Mind you this is from my experience. As long as your advanced display adaptor settings are set at 165Hz is should all work. If you still get a fall in fps or flickering, tearing, etc it maybe a hardware problem.
