My 2 yo monitor (VG240Y) has this issue where when on stand-by, or powered off, emits this really noisy coil whine. This whine change on it's frequency when the monitor is being powered on and it took a while to stop when i plug off the cable (the power supply is built in).
It has always had this whine, but barely audible at first (and with first i mean the first 2 years), now is really loud. For instance, the monitor still work perfectly fine, it's just this noise that is has worsened with time.
I've tried to send it in a local repair shop, with no success, and the shipping to the nearest Acer repair shop is 22 bucks to and back (at best) + the cost of the repair itself.
It's a fairly inexpensive monitor, I personally would be willing to spend up to 60€ on it to resolve the issue, but considering the shipping i doubt it
A solution might be just buying a socket with a switch, but i don't know if this problem might impact the monitor to not powering up altogether.
Any idea of what might it be and how much would that costs?
Keeping it as it is might damage the monitor even further?
It is just better to buy a new monitor, instead of sending it to repair?
