First...HELLO everyone! :))

I have a system running under W98 (and old one of about 4 years )

Lately, for no reason i can tell, the monitor will just stop working --no sync. It will just be a black screen.

A reboot fixes it until it decides to go wonky again.

What is likely the cause? if it was a driver issue then why did it just start acting up now after a few years?

But if its hardware..why does a reboot solve it?

please help and TIA!!

Have you tried troubleshooting by swapping out the monitor yet?

i don't have an older monitor that i want to risk plugging in.

i'd rather just get an answer from someone who recognizes the problem :)

I don't think you'd be putting a monitor at risk if you plug it in.

nothing is overclocked

its just a Celeron 233 system with a generic svfga monitor (14 inch MACOM)...nade by a manufacturer that i can't find a website for to dwnload a monitor specific info file.

The graphic card (S3 Virge)..is a generic NON accelerated 3d card (which is why i don't want to plug in my new monitor).

also has 64 meg of the memory that came before EDo.

:) its My DAD's system.

Success comes from trying :)
