I tried connecting a monitor to my laptop, but it keeps flashing black, after a while it's black with a flash of input here and there, if I move the mouse the cycle repeats after I stop moving it, also I have to move the mouse rather quickly to keep the monitor from flashing. I connect the monitor to the laptop with a HDMI to VGA adapter, since the laptop has no VGA port.

So I tried replacing the cable, the monitor but the only thing that stopped it was trying another laptop, so I figured the problem is with the laptop, reinstalling the GPU drivers didn't help I was so desperate that I even reinstalled Windows and now I'm clueless.

Laptop's specs:
ASUS ROG GL552VX
CPU: Intel Core i5 6300HQ
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 950M
RAM: 8GB
OS: Windows 10 Home

Can provide further specs if needed.

First guess the issue is with the adapter you are using. Without seeing what is happening hard to say exactly. Test it with another system without the adapter.
Ok so I tried connecting the monitor with the adapter to another laptop, that worked fine, then did the same without the adapter which worked just as well. After that I tried connecting another monitor to my laptop with just HDMI without the adapter but it flashed exactly the same way.

One thing I've noticed is when the laptop is booting it shows the Asus logo, the monitor doesn't flash it starts flashing after that, when Windows starts to boot.

See if there are updated drivers for your laptop from the laptop vendor support site, BIOS, chipset and video card drivers specifically. Could be your HDMI port is bad since it did the same thing on both laptops. Or you can try another HDMI cable if you can.

I updated everything I could've updated but to no avail unfortunatly. Another HDMI cable also didn't help.
