Question Monitor flickering black, tried everything else

Hi all,

Have had trouble with my monitor flickering black for a few seconds, mostly while gaming but regularly and getting progressively more common. Now the pc is almost unusable except with the integrated graphics card.

Here's what I've tried:
  • game settings, vsync, framerate etc
  • alt monitors, cables and ports, and alt cables from the psu
  • new graphics card (ouch)
  • drivers on both graphics cards
  • different slots for the graphics cards

At the moment by fiddling with exactly how the graphics card is seated I can get it to boot and be usable, but this is very unreliable. Could this be an issue with the motherboard itself, which is 3 years old? Is there anything cheap to try replacing before replacing the motherboard?

Much appreciated, sorry if I've got terminology wrong

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

We're going to need more information. When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Include the age of the PSU as well. If you're on Windows 10, include the version you're currently working with.

Also, before you drop any more money in parts to resolve the issue, you're going to have to identify the issue first.
