My lcd monitor has always had this weird problem (bought it used) where at some point while using it, it will start to flicker off and on (meaning goes totally black, then comes back) very rapidly, I'm talking many times x second, and it makes this little crackle noise as it does, like imagine a fly trapped inside beating itself against the inside of the monitor. Eventually, it will get tired and just stay black. The only way to stop this from happening is to... beat the crap out of it. I shake it, smack it, rock it around until it stops flickering. That normally is all it takes and it will keep working fine for hours after that. But what the heck is going on? Seems to me like some kind of short inside the monitor, but I don't know. Don't think it has anything to do with the computer since I've used other monitors with the computer and they haven't acted up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like the monitor has a serious issue there, and smacking it around may help you for the meantime but will only make it worse later on.

-I would consider getting a 21-23" FHD LED Samsung (series 3/5) monitor as they are relatively cheap and really good monitors.

-A monitor with this kind of issue is not fixable until you replace things and that can be expensive, who knows what's wrong with it.

Thanks unknownofprob, yeah no, smacking it is not a long term solution. Buying a new one is of course always an option, but I'm wondering what is causing the problem in the first place?? Maybe you or someone else has some idea of what the symptoms might indicate and whether there's possibly some way to actually fix the darn thing.

trying to fix monitors is a risky option though, trying to find the problem and actually fix it is almost impossible. If you do want to replace thing you might be forking a lot and that defiantly isn't worth it. It may be a faulty capacitor or something, but who knows.
