Question Monitor for budget PC setup

I'm on a budget for monitors, no more than £300. My PC specs: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/kByfTB

I'm torn between whether a 144hz with 1080p or a 60/75hz with 1440p is better. There are qualities to both that I like and dislike, but ultimately I'll go with whatever people think is the best pairing with my graphics card. I should have the budget within a couple of years to purchase a better quality one, so I don't need anything expensive right now, just something that does the job and allows me to play my games fast in good quality. Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks.

The budget for your monitor is 2-3 times what I would think of as a "budget setup".

Your RX580 is not really a good card for 1440 gaming unless you are OK with turning down options to match the resolution to get stable FPS.

You also need to list what size you want, 24", 27"? For 144hz in your price range you are looking at TN or maybe VA screens, 75hz you can get a nice looking IPS screen but with a higher response time, in the 5ms range.

Need to decide on what you want first, nicer colors or smoother game play. In most games I would pick IPS at 75hz or 60hz over TN at 120/144.


Dell - S2419NX is a good model, pretty cheap, IPS 1080 5ms response and 75hz, a good middle ground for a system.

This sub-300 model is pretty good also AOC C27G1 27". More of a gamer setup and would match a RX580 well, it's 1080 so resolution is great for the card, VA screen so better colors than TN, FreeSync again good for AMD cards. But it's curved, so up to you if you want to go that way.

For your budget you can go in many different directions, and you really don't need to plan to upgrade the monitor at all, 300 or even 200,250 will get you a good quality setup. I am assuming your local pricing is close to the US prices, especially since Euro is worth more than the dollar on a 1-1 ratio.

Thanks for the reply, all those monitors look good. I'd say I'm veering more towards the side of wanting smoother game-play than vibrancy. The size really doesn't matter much to me, I'm fine with a 24" or 27" as my previous was only 21.5", either of those are an upgrade to me. The Viotek looks good, as does the AOC, although the Viotek appears to be cheaper (despite them being incredibly similar.) For the card, which one would you say is better?

As for my video card, are there any better options at a similar price or should I just stick with what I've got? I'm fine buying a 1080p, that's no issue - although if I buy a 1440p in the future I'd prefer not to have to swap out my video card with it to improve quality options.

The Viotek ones are a bit more of a gamble, they are cheaper, but also quality control is not as good. Really people take a chance on them and most get good ones, some don't. Seems the biggest issue is audio jacks not working which is probably a very small issue since most people use other speakers.

About the monitor size, 24 is a noticeable improvement from 21/22, but a 27" is much more immersive since at normal desk distance all you really see is the screen. With a 24" monitor your vision takes in the full monitor and also some surrounding, at 27" your field of view is pretty much all screen.

My main setup is a 27" 4k IPS with a 60hz refresh rate, my son now has both of the 24". I like the 27" size a good deal better.

If it was my money, I would probably for the AOC monitor. At 1080 your video card would be a good match for it.
