Monitor for distance shooting games

I play Americas Army and I play maps that require long range shooting. If its possible I would like far away objects to look more clear. There is fog in the maps and It would be great if I could get that 3foot advantage that everyone talks about in the game. Some tell me that the antiglare film on monitors is the cause of shortcomings in distance seeing. I need a monitor that runs at least 80hz at 1600x1200 that has very fine detail with no antiglare film. Any ideas?

I currently have a Veiw Sonic E90FB 19" and its dieing on me.

Antiglare film is not the cause for lack of clarity, sy least not on new screens. It has more to do with the quality of the monitor, dpi, dot pitch size and refresh rate. And monitore manufacturers have various quality models for each size, and getting a good quality from manufacturer makes the most improvement.

Are you certain?

I had two Samsung monitors with the same tube, a high end and midrange version. The high end one had a smoother anti-glare coating, the midrange one had a grainier coating. A friend said "This one has a cheaper tube, it can't be .20 dot pitch", so I cranked up the resolution to 1920x1440 so he could see the finest of fine detail. But to do that, you had to look PAST the distraction of the AS/AG film.

I still hear lots of people complaining that Samsung's cheaper monitors "look graining" and when you look at the dot-pitch spec, you have to know it's because of the AS/AG film.

That's what I was infering to, Just buy quality monitors and the anti-glare coating won't be a noticable factor in resolution.

I'm not to familiar with monitors at all. Does the Pitch get any better? I know that better refreshrate would help.

Yes, but it sucks that you can get two monitors with the same tube, from the same company, and the cheaper one has a lower quality AS/AG film than the more expensive one. I mean, the cost of the AS/AG film can't be that much different, you shouldn't have to pay for extra features to get a good coating.

Then what would you do? I need a new monitor, this one is on the blink! Dont worry about price! I can always save more $$$!

I love my 22" NEC/Mitsubishi FP2141sb diamondtron. Totally flat screen, high res, high refresh, sharp picture, very bright. What more could you ask for :)

I buy mine used from the local university.

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=24-002-091&DEPA=0" target="_new">NEC/MITSUBISHI FP2141SB-BK 22"</A> These are the specs. 20" viewable? Do 21" monitors have 20" viewable? The only thing that looks fishy is the .24 dot pitch. Is there a noticeable difference with .21 and .24? Otherwise, 1600x1200 refreshrates are great.

Most 21" monitors have just over 19" viewable. .24dp is middle of the road for anything under 21", but as monitors get larger other specifications do too. Yes, the difference is noticable from close viewing distances, but heck, with a monitor that big, chances are you'll be looking at it from a few inches more distance!

Looks like that NEC is the way to go unless I find somthing better. Im looking at over $700 for that monitor... Thats a bit more than I expected. Viewsonic has monitors for $200 less that have .21 pitch at 20" viewable. Im not sure if those will give me the quality I need. Not to mention I hear that Viewsonic is going down the tubes as of latly on product quality!

I like those cheap .21dp Hitachi tubes!

I would find a .21 or better dot pitch. Lower dot pitch is part of the equation for clarity and crspness.

Give me some examples of the ones you like. Ill take a look around as well. Thanks for all of the advice guys.

BTW. Thats a nice price for that NEC with the same specs as the $650 one! That look realy good too.
