Monitor for home theater and gaming ~$400

I'm looking to get a monitor to add to my current HP 2709m. The first monitor I looked at was the HP 2711x, and it's just a later version and about the same price as my 2709m. I'm unsure, though, of what to get. I like how thin the LED monitors are, but I'm worried it won't be as responsive as my 2709m. 1920x1080 or above is preferred. I was also worried that the 2711x wouldn't be as bright as my 2709m and would look weird next to it (it's 150 cd/m2 lower). What's weird, though, is the comments on Newegg claim that the 2711x is "bright". I'm confused. :/

Will the differences in brightness from the monitors be noticeable? What about LED monitors and response times?

I think that the brightness difference will only be slightly noticeable. Contrast ratio is far more importante than brightness in my opinion.

I don't know about any issue related to LED and responsivity - but are you really sure your vision is so super-human you can notice what happens in a couple of miliseconds?
