Monitor goes black

Ok, this is a strange one, recently my Acer monitor has been going black every few seconds, the only thing I have added recently is an external sound card (Creative Omni Sound Blaster ), connected to PC by means of a USB and connected to my amp/receiver by an optical cable, the strange and illogical thing is I can watch a movie from my external hard drive without the monitor screen going black at any time, can someone please tell me what is going on ? I reset my PC to factory settings yesterday thinking that some strange virus had struck but the same thing is happening today, please help !!

It might be a power surge, see if the monitor is plugged in correctly and isolate the monitor connection from other heavy devices. the same thing happens to me when i open my fridge, the fridge and monitor are connected in the same outlet...

Thank you Seyed22Shaheen, I have a number different devices plugged into an extension lead, I will try and isolate the monitor and see if it improves the situation, thanks again !

Just in case anyone is following this thread, I would like to point out that I am a complete technophobe but I think I solved it, I disconnected the VGA connecting cable and replaced it with a HDMI cable, so far, so good !
