Monitor goes blank

I have an HP 1740 monitor that about 6 years old (maybe more). Recently, the monitor suddenly go blank. Restarting, rebooting does nothing, but after a few hours it will work again and after awhile will go blank again. Any ideas as to the problem?

There are too many things that could have gone wrong. I would just replace it, unless you REALLY want to open it up. If that is the case, check for overheated components (or bulging capacitors) in the power supply.
