Problem:
Monitor frequently seems to enter sleep mode on its own; computer occassionally refuses to activate display on startup, giving a beep code which indicates a communications problem between the monitor and GPU.
Heat level: average.
Hardware:
Samsung Syncmaster 2343 nw
XFX Radeon HD 6970
DVI/VGA adapter
The problems I am experiencing are as follows:
a) occassionally, the monitor refuses to react when turning on my machine, giving a beep code.
b) occassionally, usually under load, my monitor seems to enter "sleep" mode of its own accord, and nothing but a hard reset is able to wake up the monitor.
My questions are as follows:
a) what is the most likely culprit behind the issues I am experiencing?
b) would acquiring a new GPU be likely to fix some or all of these issues?
Had these issues for something like a year now, and starting to lose patience - need to know how to make the problem go away.
A recent switch to the Radeon Crimson 15.303 drivers have not fixed this issue, though I am not ruling out that the issue may be driver related.
