My laptop screen is broken, so it's plugged into an old monitor. It was working fine up until yesterday, when I accidentally hit 'sleep' when trying to shut it down.
I left it and went to bed, but when I tried to turn it on this morning, the laptop screen lit up, but the monitor said 'VGA: no input signal' and went straight into sleep mode.
When I plug the VGA cable out of the laptop the monitor says 'Check Video Cable' but stays on, but when I plug it back in it goes straight into sleep mode.
Please help!

Hi
make sure you have you battery charged and plug you adapter in the laptop.
Also you could try to go in Safe mode - sfter poer on keep pumping on the F8 then if you see options go to Safemode
If you manage to go there hit Window key + R and type cmd > enter
then type :
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -monitor-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -monitor-timeout-dc 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -disk-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -disk-timeout-dc 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -standby-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -standby-timeout-dc 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -hibernate-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -hibernate-timeout-dc 0

Reboot
I hope this will work :)

Alow me to dissagree ...... Fn + F4 is on most i`v seen - HP mostly :)

- you can try Fn + F4 to circle the VGA output from LCD to external the dual dextop clone
Let`s hope you see any image on the external ...
