Monitor/GPU problems PLEASE HELP!

Hello Internet.

I am having some issues with my GPU's (GTX 280 x2) There perform fine in all games but the monitor will "go to sleep" after random points of inactivity. I have already looked at the power options and they are all set to turn the screen off never. Its not a screen save as I have to reboot to get the display to be picked up again

I have no idea what could be wrong and all help will be greatly appreciated.

check your temps when this happens and they are old cards, they could already be failing so might want to look into a upgrade

The cards as far as I can tell are not failing at all. The idle temps (when the screen turn off) are around 40°C in my room (no AC radiators on) they seem like reasonable temps so any other ideas?
