Monitor has no signal

I just got a new desktop (Dell Optiplex 990) and was trying to hook it up when I noticed that my monitor did not have a DisplayPort connection which was what I needed to work with the Optiplex. So I bought an adapter. Still no signal though. I have tried everything I have seen on the various posts as far as checking for connections, unplugging and replugging, etc. to no avail. Could it be the adapter?

It really depends on whether you have DP or DP++ output. Most adapters will work with DP++, but for DP it's a little harder. You just need the right adapter. You might find something cheaper on Amazon, but this is what dell recommends for the 990.

The adapter in the link is an HDMI to DisplayPort. I am going from DVI at my monitor to DisplayPort on the Optiplex.

Found my answer. The adapter was indeed bad. I replaced it. All is well.
