Monitor has wrong connection type

Ok I built my computer and at first it worked but I only had a VGA monitor and I have the Asus GTX 1060 3gb it doesn't have a VGA port. I fixed it with an adaptor (VGA to Display port) but then that broke too.
Is there a makeshift way to convert VGA to HDMI or other....?
Is there a way to use the motherboard's built-in VGA port while still using the graphics card?
Should I even bother getting another adaptor over getting a new monitor and fix it forever?
