So I have just transitioned to my first actual gaming pc, and I must say it feels amazing. The only problem is that I have a dinky 2013 dell monitor and I obviously want to upgrade. I've researched what resolution should fit with my 1070, but only came to mixed results. An average of 30-40 frames better on a 1080p res, but then I had people tell me a 1070 was "overkill" for 1080p and I should buy a 1440p monitor. Then I ran into people saying the frames were not that great on the 1440p and a 1080p was a more satisfying experience. Please give your input, and thank you in advance!

Asus makes a 1440p 144hz monitor, I've heard QC is spotty at best, but if you get a good one it's awesome. Take into account the size too, I would get anything bigger than 24" if it's 1080p, assuming your at a normal viewing distance at a desk.

Pc enthusiasts will often tell you their own personal opinion and act like it is fact. There is often battles between resolution standards for certain graphics cards.

1080p monitors are cheaper and you will most likely be able to maintain high fps.

1440p monitors get really expensive and you lose out on some of the fps you would of had at 1080p

I personally play at 1080p because i like that the monitors are cheaper which let me have a dual monitor setup. I recommend this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313

Im typing to you on it right now and for the price you cant go wrong.

Im planning on playing anything from the witcher 3 to r6 and cs. I guess I should consider how much of an impact those lost frames are in my games? Keep in mind my only true gaming experience has been in consoles so I have no clue about frames about 30, and screen tearing and ghosting and stuff.

The monitor i linked can go up to 144hz so you can change the refresh rate in each game depending on what fps you are able to reach. I think it'd work great.

What's you budget? If your looking at 1440p monitors, you may be able to afford a 144hz monitor, and it will be better for games like r6s and cs:go.

My budget is around $400-$600 so not horrible. Do the extra frames you think make up for just being at 1080p? I've found a few monitors that are within my budget that are 1440p with 144hz which make me salivate at the thought of triple A games with high graphics. But again I just don't know if the frame loss is noticeable
