Ive just upgraded my gfx to a 6800 GT, mainly for doom 3 and it is the
daddy, but now i find my monitor is struggling to keep up and could be on
its way out 🙁

I currently have an old-ish 19" Packard Bell CRT thing which as done me well
but having some problems. If I run Far Cry\Doom3 at 1600x1200 (which I can
now) I get some noticable flicker, at 1024 its not too bad but still there.
I think i want to stick with a 19" CRT but have no idea whats the best one
to go for, ive been looking round for a while and can't seem to decide?

I want doom 3 to look and play the best I can get it before I play it
anymore, any ideas on what to go for?

Cheers

Well i set it to 70 which is the max it goes to

Its not just that thats the problem tho it occasionaly just goes black, it
doesnt power of or anything just goes black?? If i leave it 20mins it
soemtimes comes back otherwise i give it a bit of a tap on the back and that
sometimes works. Its doing this more and more often so probably best i
replace it now i think?

Packard Bell went outta business how many years ago? Heh. Yep, definitely
time for a modern monitor. Sony, NEC, Samsung, all make great monitors,
in all sizes and flavors. Other companies make good ones too. Find one that
can do at least 1600x1200x32 at 85Hz refresh or higher, and has a dot-pitch
of 24 or less, and you'll be set. I prefer Trinitron or Diamondtron tubed mon-
itors myself, which use aperture-grill tube technology- they are bright and
produce rich color; shadow-mask monitors usually produce sharper text, but
aren't quite as bright and colorful. For gaming, I always go Trinitron tube.

I've got a 21" NEC MultiSync E1100 (Had it through three generations
of CPU upgrades). With my BFG 6800 GT OC it produces stunning
graphics and gameplay at 1600x1200x32.
