Monitor hiss

I have a HP w1907s widescreen monitor about 3 yrs old. I noticed that it makes a hiss when turned on. Should monitors make a hiss at all?
I only just noticed it as i had my tv switched off which is in the same room which probably drowned out the sound before.
I tried turning down the contrast/brightness & altered the refresh rate etc but no luck.

Does it have inbuilt speakers ?

If no speakers -- might be a sign of impending failure as components like capacitors can emit sound if they are failing.

It has built in speakers. I turned the volume setting from the monitor itself to 0 yet the hiss still persists.
