Monitor Input - Newer Monitors work on OLD system?

Hey guys,

A monitor on a machine in my family went out, and the owner is wondering if they can pick up a New Monitor and have it work for the old system. The system as a whole is probably over a decade old, a Pentium I. I am wondering if CRT inputs where all standardized back then and if she was able to have a color monitor working on an old machine able to run Windows 95 would a newer monitor be able to work with it?

VGA has been around since the 386 days or earlier. All modern monitors can display VGA (640x480). SVGA has been around since the 486 days or earlier. All modern monitors can display SVGA (800x600).

The earlier standards such as CGA and EGA were mostly a 1980's thing!
