Check if the female port is dirty on the monitor, namely the bottom of the pit and the pins. Just flip it over and throw some flashlight on it.

Something non-conductive like a wooden or plastic toothpick and a gentle, steady hand can scrape it a bit. If it's more drastic, then a tiny bit of acetone with a tiny bit of sponge attached to a toothpick can be used. Don't use cotton, it leaves fibers and those fibers burn. Just for the sake of all we hold dear, let that thing be until the acetone has completely evaporated.
